Set in 130 acres of gentle valley, the course combines elements of both parkland and moorland with varied interest from the first hole to the last.

Designed by the world-renowned golf course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1914, the course has two loops of 9 holes with a white course of 6,477 yards and a par of 71 and a red course of 5,513 yards with a par of 72. Visitors and members alike regularly praise the quality of the course and the greens, and a friendly welcome awaits all who enjoy playing golf in a delightful setting. The course is economical, with minimal walking times between greens and their following tees. While the course can be quite forgiving, it still commands respect with its fair share of bunkers, water hazards, rough and spinneys lying in wait for a careless shot.

  • Local Rules

    Effective 19th May 2026

No Play Zone on Hole 7

The whole of the areas enclosed with posts and ropes to the left of the 7th fairway, even if not marked by blue lines, are deemed No Play Zones (NPZ) and should be treated as abnormal course conditions. Relief must be taken from interference by the NPZ under Rule 16.1b.
The player may take free relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area:

    • Reference Point: The nearest point of complete relief in the general area
    • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One club-length, but with these limits
    • Limits on Location of Relief Area:
      • Must be in the general area,
      • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
      • There must be complete relief from all interference by the abnormal course condition including the posts and ropes.

Drainage Channels on Holes 7 & 10 Only

Players may lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of the nearest point of complete relief, not nearer the hole, if the drainage channel interferes with their lie, stance, or swing.

The whole drainage area on Hole 10 may be marked by blue lines and arrows and indicates a No Play Zone, where relief must be taken.

Aeration Holes in the General Area

If a player’s ball lies in or touches an aeration hole in the General Area. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b, by finding the nearest point of complete relief, no nearer the hole, and dropping a ball within one club length.  If the ball comes to rest in another aeration hole the player may take relief again under this Local Rule. But interference does not exist if the aeration hole only interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing.

Deep Tyre Ruts where the earth and surface of the ground is broken (not faint indentations or flattened grass) are to be treated as an abnormal course condition and relief taken under Rule 16.1b. Relief exists when any one of these is true:

    •  the player’s ball touches or is in the abnormal course condition; or
    •  the abnormal course condition physically interferes with the area of intended swing. (Rule 16.1a)

Relief is not allowed if the tyre rut only interferes with the player’s stance.  (MLR F-6).

Reference Point: the nearest point of complete relief in the general area

Size of Relief area measured from Reference Point: One club length but with these limits:

Must be in the general area
Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
There must be complete relief from all interference by the abnormal course condition.

Flagstick in a No Play Zone Temporary Green

The temporary greens have been marked with blue paint and as such are no play zones where play is prohibited. The exception is when the temporary green has a flagstick in the hole. Then play is allowed on the green with a putter.  When a temporary green is in play, the main green will be considered as a No Play Zone.

Penalty for playing a ball from a wrong place in breach of these local rules: General Penalty under Rule 14.7b. Strokeplay – 2 strokes, Matchplay – loss of hole
